fix bug with c4 data loading

Currently there is a bug with loading the C4 dataset that prevents the prune function from working correctly. I tried using several different combinations of package versions, but found versioning issues or bugs that broke all of them. This fix should allow the code to work correctly when using the latest version of the datasets package.
