Feature Request - use Deployments
It would be really nice if Dumpy supported Deployments and not just Pods. This way, if you're wanting to capture traffic long-term and a node reboots, the ephemeral pod doesn't just exit and stay in an "Unknown" state, but rather the Deployment will spin up another one. And if the user attaches PVCs, the pcap files are retained.
Hello @Legoclones
i though about it a while ago but i've been lazy with it, thanks for pointing it out.
i'll add some flag to run some kind of "attached" mode so dumpy can monitor target pods for deployments/ds/sts/rs and deploy new sniffers, the thing is i will have to enforce the -v flag so that captures from old sniffers persists after target pod crash since they will also crash after.
I don't know about making sniffer deployment that will monitor the pods, it will need some access to read the pods in sniffer ns and target ns and some stuff which just make it more complicated, i think its better if the command do that directly
let me know if you have a better idea
Yeah, an attached mode sounds like it should work. As long as it can recognize when a sniffer pod is in an Unknown state and spin up new ones, I think that would be great.
