Euro on 'right alt'+'5' not working in ubuntu 20

Hi,

If I boot an ubuntu install medium and select 'US international with deadkeys' or 'US with euro on 5', I can use the R-ALT+5 to get the euro symbol. However, after changing the apple_hid option to 1 or 2 for the function keys, euro symbol won't work. in a browser you will select the 5th open tab.

If you open the keymap in settings, regional settings, the keymap correctly displays right alt and 5 being pressed. But neither in an editor, terminal or wordprocessor the euro symbol is entered.
