Need configuration advice

Open wake0up0ne0 opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

My raspberry homeserver has 2 Gb of RAM and 4Tb of storage.

I backup 15 folders to 15 different s3 buckets, so i need 15 different repositories, so i need 15 container instances, so I out of ram.

Any ideas how can I make my setup less silly?

1 folder -> 1 S3 bucket == repository == 1 container in docker running kopia

  • This 15 folders are all on different PCs?
  • Do you really need 15 S3 buckets? What content is in this folders? If it's completely different topics, may be worth it. If all of them are similar topics, not worth.
  • Can you explain it more in depth what do you need 15 containers for?
  • By repository, you mean a GitHub repository or a Kopia repository?
  • What are you referring to when saying container instances?

Please someone knowledgeable correct me if I'm wrong.

No, they are on the same PC

Yes, I need 15 buckets. There are different types of files on different topics in these folders.

Can you explain it more in depth what do you need 15 containers for?

I would love to have just 1 containter, but I cant. I am forced to have 15 containers, because 1 container can only hold 1 repository. If I disconnect container from a repo, and connect it to another repo, it stops regular backups.

By repository, you mean a GitHub repository or a Kopia repository?

By repository I mean Kopia repository

What are you referring to when saying container instances?

Probably it would be correct to tell, that I have 15 containers running same kopia image, only differences in config are: s3 bucket and source data folder

Have you considered only running one (or a few) container(s) at a time and not all at once?
