Implemented sliding subtitle text into another subtitle,

Open eltomito opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

This adds two new commands: Bump Text Down and Bump Text Up. They move the subtitle text into the next or previous subtitle while leaving the timings in place. This feature is useful when a translator works on a separate copy of the subtitles and joins or splits some subtitles in the process. It puts the timings out of alignment with the original subtitles in some places and this is a way to fix it. If a block of subtitles is selected, it only affects the selection. If one subtitle is selected, all subsequent subtitles are affected.

I am not sure I understand how exactly this is supposed to work but what I would really appreciate would be a function tht would do this word by word, not subtitle by subtitle.

It works like this:   --- BEFORE Bump Down (with the first subtitle highlighted/selected) ---

1, 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:01,000 First subtitle. 2, 00:00:01,040 --> 00:00:03,290 Second subtitle with two lines, for example. 3, 00:00:03,330 --> 00:00:04,330 Third subtitle.

--- AFTER Bump Down ---

1, 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:01,000

2, 00:00:01,040 --> 00:00:03,290 First subtitle. 3, 00:00:03,330 --> 00:00:04,330 Second subtitle with two lines, for example. 4, 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:00,000 Third subtitle.

It moves the text to the next subtitle and leaves all timecodes unchanged. Sometimes, I need to do this after Paste Over Text, when the new subtitles are misaligned.

I see. In my workflow, this would never be useful, but people have different workflows:-).
