Older express service pack installers fail to install
Im setting up legacy update on Windows 2000 to get it up to date (well, as up to date as it can be), but when i try to run the Service pack 4 Setup Wizard, it downloads from Legacy update and runs, but it then errors out when it tries to connect to a server. the server its trying to connect to is on the top left, and the error is in the middle of the screen.
I think you used express installer. why not the full one? I just searched on google by typing "W2KSP4_EN.EXE" file.
They used express installer because that’s what WU is offering as the update for Win2k SP3 → SP4 (same for XP RTM → SP1a, although WU puts precedence to SP2). I could possibly do a find and replace on the server to substitute them with the full installer.

XP SP2 to SP3 also uses express installer (with KB898461 installed) , but the difference is that the psf needed is also downloaded from WU server rather than downloading by installer itself
