Purpose of floating layouts not understood
It is not immediately clear to me how to best use the button layouts feature. I could understand the concept as it relates to a specific app having a certain layout of buttons but even then, what does this do over simply having a new button created as a trigger when needed? What is the extra step of adding buttons to a layout accomplishing? Maybe a little introduction would be helpful.
Yeah, it is a bit confusing right now because there isn't Key Map groups yet. Groups will be in 3.0 before it is out of beta. Groups allow you to share constraints across key maps so that is how one can set up button profiles that all activate at the same time without having to manually duplicate constraints across tonnes of key maps. Layouts are just a mechanism to help with configuring and do not affect key maps at all.
