No spacing between linebreaks with spacing?

If I input this text in Vim via edit-weechat:

First line

Second line

The spacing gets removed like this in the sent message:

First line
Second line

If I type the exakt same text in like Converstions it gets viewed correctly:

First line

Second line

Is there anything I can do about this?

What the... It's separate messages!? I just send a list to a friend and it turned out that every new line is new message. I just flooded her with a billion messages. I can only imagine how that must have sounded on her end. :|
