lair of the minotaur: boat death is confusing

Scenario: lair of the minotaur

Situation: get into the boat near the beginning of the scenario. take it south, past the bunny and beyond the 'south grotto'.

The game goes into a loop and prints out text that your character is dead 1000+ times, but doesn't provide any story text to explain what happened. Game does display the 'restart' and 'restore save game' buttons.

Also just noticed that if I make a game save before this boat death, I cannot use it after dying. After the boat death, the restore save game button appears as expected. However when clicked, it does not display the saved game. Navigating to the top-level eamon-remastered.com website will display the saved game and allow recovery from there.
