What is the proper way to create a instance?

Following along with the README and anytime I put var instance = lity('https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSGBVzeBUbk'); into a script tag the video gets loaded in a modal automatically. Am i doing something wrong or missing something? Any and all help would be much appreciated.
