You can't directly modify the file, you have to create the pull request to suggest changes to the maintainer of the repo.

Steps to create a pull request

  • Fork the repo you want to modify/update
  • Clone the forked repo in your system
  • Create a sepreate branch
  • Do the necessary changes that you feel should be made
  • Make a pull request

If the maintainer feel your changes are worth keeping they will keep otherwise they will discard or ask to make changes accordingly
