\altaffiliation does not appear in footnote but after \affiliation

https://github.com/josephwright/achemso/blob/main/achemso-demo.tex lines 51 and 56 use \altaffiliation{}, which should be shown in the footnote based on the description, but is not shown in the footnote (after \affiliation{}) in the compiled PDF like http://tug.ctan.org/macros/latex/contrib/achemso/achemso-demo.pdf .

The editor asked us to put our current affiliations in the footnote. How to do that?

Could you forward the request to me by email? The class is working as expected (the affiliations are footnotes to the title, not the page): it's never been the exception to 'look like the journal'.

We are submitting to ACS Omega. The relevant point of the formatting comment from the editor is:

  • In case your current addresses differ from the research affiliations they should be included as footnotes. (affiliations in the system and manuscript must match)
