Android Galaxy Tab 2 not connecting

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. just trying to get the app to talk to the NXT is resulting in failure.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
'not connected'

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 running Android 4.0.3

Please provide any additional information below.
Under Settings > Bluetooth I see NXT as a paired device but when I run the 
application I get a bluetooth pairing request, I key in the password and it 
comes back with 'not connected' and the NXT says 'line busy'
