This would be fairly easy to implement if @jenssegers is willing to include the carbon package as a requirement.

@jenssegers are you willing to include the carbon package as a requirement? This will allow us to add support for the date, datetime, timestamp and custom_datetime to the atribute casting? Please let me know so I can create a pull request to add this.
