Differentiate postmeta for Attachment instances

In some cases it would be handy to have different Attachments postmeta for different Attachments instances. A typical use case is when using Attachments in conjunction with WPML. With different postmeta it would be possible to set some instances to be automatically copied between translation while other instances remain translatable.
