Font use
Hi there!
I'm working on some marketing materials for Randall's new book and wondered if it would be okay to use the font? Wasn't completely sure to what degree the Creative Commons licence stretched.
Have asked through official channels but wanted to make sure it was okay via this portal?
Thanks for creating it, thought it would be strange to make anything to do with him without including his handwriting!
all the best,
David
I am not a lawyer, but my understanding is that:
-
Noncommercial means that you can't sell this font, but you can use it to produce something you can sell as long as the font does not represent a majority of the work which is sold. I think in this case that's fine.
-
As this is originally @randallmunroe's work, then they still own the original copyright, and thus can make a copy of this and relicense it for any use they wish.
Mostly I think that anything here that @randallmunroe or someone who speak on behalf of them ask is ok – and here I'm going to assume when you say "some marketing materials for Randall's new book", it's on their behalf, right ?
2 Side comments:
1 - We are soon (october) going to enforce 2FA for GitHub, and folks that have access to this repository will get kicked out if 2FA is not enabled. I don't believe @randallmunroe has this enabled, so if you have access to them can you let them know ?
2 – Alternatively if you would prefer this repository to be moved into a new org in GitHub, or an org of your choice that is controlled by @randallmunroe we can help to get that done. This repository is mostly here for historical reason.
Looking forward to anything new coming out.
Feel free to reach out via private channels ( my mail is available on my profile), if there is anything that can't be discussed privately.
Wicked! Thanks very much!
It was the non-commercial that was confusing me!
Will pass on the notes, thanks again.
All the best,
David
