Tmpdisk won't be saved by Time Machine

Open maheloic opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

Hello

Tmpdisk are not saved by Time Machine. When entering TM's preference panel, then Options, we can see the TmpDisk in the exclude list, greyed out. The TmpDisk can't be removed from the exclude list.

If anything can be done, I'll glad to test it.

Hi,

I'd love to get more details on what you're trying to save - the contents on the TmpDisk or the TmpDisk creation script (so that if you reinstall from Time Machine you'll have all your autocreated TmpDisks saved?

Hello, Well, as we say in France: "both of them sir!" I didn't thought about the creation script at first, because the contents seems more important and would be searched for after an accidental deletion (or reboot, since the TmpDisk is recreated but empty), but it could be nice to have the TmpDisk recovered in case of a full restore after a unrecoverable crash.

Hi,

I did some searching and some polling of a couple users and this feature seems to go against how most people use the app (as a temporary, throwaway storage) since having TimeMachine index and save disposable files goes against the default purpose.

I'm still looking into whether there's a way to selectively setup a TmpDisk for time machine access so that a user who wants it could toggle whether it's indexed and used or not. I haven't had much time to dig into the specifics for how TimeMachine works with virtually mounted disks.
