Hyperspace Desktop in Maintenance Mode
Hi all,
This is an announcement regarding Hyperspace Desktop. We've recently released v1.1.4, which resolves some issues around logging in and account switching. After a meeting that took place on October 3, 2020, we agreed that we will be putting Hyperspace Desktop in maintenance mode until further notice.
We love the Hyperspace Desktop client as much as you do and want to give it the best chance it has of being a great fediverse client for Windows, macOS, and Linux. We're looking to find more contributors to assist in developing Hyperspace Desktop as we continue to work on Codename Starlight for iOS. If you're interested in becoming a developer on the team for the desktop client, let us know by emailing us at hyperspace at marquiskurt.net, popping in our Discord chat, reaching out to us on Mastodon, or replying to this thread.
Here are some important notes regarding this change:
- Hyperspace Desktop will continue to work and be available to download.
- If we find critical flaws in Hyperspace Desktop that need to be resolved right away, we will provide updates to resolve those issues.
- Hyperspace Desktop is not going away.
Thanks for your understanding.
Doesn't want to work through a VPN. Guess it's using webkit?
@marathone The desktop client uses Electron, which uses the same engine Chromium does (Blink, iirc). I believe the issue applies to Electron apps in general and not just Hyperspace Desktop specifically. Another user reported an issue similar to this, and we discovered it was an issue with their proxy app. This is the thread: https://mastodon.social/users/azanoneZen/statuses/105014145079049394
App-wise, we don't do anything that would interfere with a VPN/proxy or block access, so this may be an upstream Electron issue or a proxy/VPN misconfiguration. Unfortunately, we can't really provide any support on this front.
