LG ThinQ - Cooktop Missing From Range
The problem
Currently the LG ThinQ integration exposes Ranges as Oven only, for models such as the LSIS6338FE. This does not match the fact that they are combination devices, and ideally should consist of a Cooktop and a Oven. The official LG ThinQ app breaks down the range into the two components, but the same is not done in the official Home Assistant integration.
Additionally, for the Oven entity that is exposed for the range, the Oven entity is exposed as an Upper Oven, instead of a Lower Oven. This is confusing, as a range generally has the cooktop above the oven, not below it. It is even more confusing in cases where an over-the-range microwave oven is to paired with the range via the automatic exhaust fan setting.

Using a Home Assistant automation, I want to turn on a range hood fan and lights when our LSIS6338F stove burners are turned on. This already happens through LG Thinq if the range hood is actually an LG Over The Range microwave. However in my case the range hood is a GE insert unit. I intended to use the GE SmartHQ integration to control the fan hood and the LG Thinq integration to monitor the stove burners state. However, I have been stymied by the same issue noted by ryenitcher. It is only the oven part of the range that is exposed by the LG Thinq integration. There are no entities there for the cooktop burners.
I see that SKS has LG Thinq connectivity so I expect if I used the SKS range hood insert instead of the GE unit the LG Thinq automation would turn on the SKS range hood. I would rather not do this though because the GE 42" insert has twin blowers providing 1200CFM whereas the SKS 36' unit has a single blower giving just 600CFM. The SKS unit is also twice the price of the GE unit.
@ryenitcher , @moggymotor Oven device is not designed to include a cooktop's state in thinqconnect. We are working on further designs for this type, but it will take some time. We will let you know again when it is completed. Thanks.
I look forward to an enhancement where the range/cooktop is included either in the same device as the oven or as a separate device. My use case is similar to others, but I’m looking to use HA to turn my kitchen lights to 100% while the cooktop is being used.
So similar to LG ThinQ’s built in process for optionally turning on an LG Microwave light and/or fan, I want to link to my HA controlled lights.
Hopefully this integration can be enhanced soon!
P.S. - @ryenitcher , while your comment about Upper Oven makes sense, I suspect this is coded to consider dual ovens and for single ovens, they picked upper as the default instead of lower. For the same reasons you suggest, I’ve renamed my entities lower oven.
I too would be pleased to have state information on the cooktop and not merely the oven to trigger automation or notifications. Looking forward to enhancement for.
I would also love the cooktop status... I want to set up some automations/notifications/statuses for "You left the stove on" for a bedtime routine and a leaving the house routine.
I would like this as well
Just want to add on as another interested user. It would be helpful to have a check the stove is off and start other automations when I start cooking which usually begins when I turn the cooktop on.
Just another me-too. Came here with he same issue as the OP looking for a solution. I have a single oven with an integrated cooktop above. I just bought the LREL6325F and as with the OP, the ThinQ app shows this as two devices, a range, and a cooktop, but HA only exposes the range as "oven upper"

After posting this I did find that the HACS integration does have a cooktop field.
I would also greatly appreciate a cooktop status. Home Assistant integration was a purchasing decision for my range, so seeing this missing is disappointing.
Piling on here. I have a WLSEL6337 that I would like to have automations to check to see if the cooktop has been left on for long periods when no one is in the kitchen, or the lights are off in the kitchen, or we're going to bed or leaving the home. I see the status in the app, but not in the HA entities. The oven being "upper oven" is not an issue, but no access to the status of the cooktop is a biggie.
Being able to trigger a non-LG microwave to enable light and/or fan sounds cool, but my current microwave isn't capable. I'm more concerned with accidental knob movement and/or forgetfulness.
Confirming we're all talking about the same thing. Below is a screenshot fro the LG iOS app showing the Cooktop is "Off" - it turns to "On" when I light up one of the burners. It would be awesome if this were exposed as an entity in HA. Thanks!

Yes, exactly, @josh-m-sharpe . The fact that @LG-ThinQ-Integration hasn't said a thing here is quite discouraging.
