Camera feed freeze after a few seconds

Open ReX1983 opened this issue 1 year ago • 11 comments

Home Assistant Android app version(s):

Android version(s): 14

Device model(s): Samsung S24 Ultra

Home Assistant version: 2025.1.2-full

Last working Home Assistant release (if known): don't remember

Description of problem, include YAML if issue is related to notifications:

For the past few weeks, the video feed from my CCTV cameras plays for 2-3 seconds and then stops when viewed in the HA Companion App.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open the HA Companion App.
  2. Navigate to the page displaying the CCTV feeds.
  3. The video plays for a few seconds (2-3 seconds) and then freezes.

Expected Behavior

The video feed should stream continuously without stopping.

Additional Testing & Findings

  • Initially suspected an issue with WebRTC or go2rtc custom components, so I updated both, but the issue persisted.
  • Added the same cameras using HA entity cards (to exclude the above components), but the problem remained.
  • Tested the same HA page on Chrome Mobile and Firefox MobileNo issues in browsers.
  • For the above reasons, it seems that the problem is specific to the HA Companion App.
  • No changes have been made to my HA server, CCTV hardware, network, or Android devices.

can you double check android system webview is upto date in the play store?

dshokouhi avatar Apr 01 '25 12:04 dshokouhi

Yes, it is up to date (135.0.7049.38). The same issue happens also with my tablet (another Android device, also up to date).

ReX1983 avatar Apr 01 '25 16:04 ReX1983

does this only happen with custom components?

when you tested using a browser it was on the same device?

is HA core up to date?

you also mention "past few weeks" does that mean this was not an issue before? could be related to a HA update... recently native webrtc support was added, are you using that?

dshokouhi avatar Apr 01 '25 16:04 dshokouhi

It happens with and without custom components (with the custom component being the WebRTC card). Same issue if I try to visualise the same camera feed in a picture card (no custom component involved).

Yes, I tested on a browser on the same device (two devices tested, both showing the same problem).

HA core is up to date.

The feed used to work without any issue, for years, up until at least a month ago.

As far as I know HA core now uses go2rtc, which I was already using before, I haven't changed anything on my side.

When did this issue start? you said a few weeks it was fine so that sounds more like a HA core update that could've caused the issue as the app was not updated in some time

I am unable to pinpoint against an exact date or event as I only noticed recently (last two weeks).

What makes it confusing is that it only happens with the companion app.

you seem to be contradicting yourself here lol

Let me clarify: on the same device where the companion app presents this issue, the browsers (Chrome Mobile and Firefox) work perfectly.

I have then installed the companion app and the two browsers on another device and they behave in the same way: browsers work and companion app doesn't.
