Unreliable - clip content gets erased on its own in the edit screen

Open RamouzK opened this issue 8 months ago • 6 comments

To Reproduce Right click and click edit or f2 to edit a clip and nothing is inside. But, the preview window that I have is showing the content I had.

Version, OS and Environment Windows 10, 64 bit.

CopyQ v9.1.0 and 10.0.0

Both have the same issue.

Additional context I noticed this issue a few months ago on v9.1.0, so I went through my clips and added them back.

Then, today, I went to update a few clips, then, a minute later I updated to v10.0.0 and after re-opening, I noticed the same issue that I described, in the same clips I had just updated, but not just in the clips I updated yet others too.

I use the .zip portable version (downloaded from here and I just overwrite previous versions). I don't have CopyQ installed, just portable.

I don't use CopyQ as my main but only as a backup in case the other software that I use stops working. The other one is amazing and way better (no offense). It's called ClipClip, free to use as of now. But, thank God I do not use CopyQ as my main, otherwise my clips would have been lost multiple times and I use this for work. Never an issue with the other one, so it seems the way CopyQ stores clips is not the proper way or the portable version is at fault.

I don't understand the issue - the title and "To Reproduce" description seem to talk about different things.

Is this problem with inconsistent content of current item and Preview (the dock that is toggled with File - Show Preview)?

Can you provide a screenshot or step-by-step guide to reproduce this?

I cannot reproduce this. After editing an item, the Preview is also updated correctly.

Thanks for your reply. The title and what I wrote are not talking about different things. One says the content gets deleted, the other tells you there's no content in the edit page. Same thing. Something is deleting the content. Yet, you can see it in the preview pane.

I don't know how else to describe to you that CopyQ is removing my actual clip content, yet the preview pane still shows the text, as if it's still there, but when you EDIT that clip, nothing is in there.

Imagine a preview pane showing what I first created or updated either now or a while ago. Then, imagine you go to edit that clip and there's nothing to edit, all erased. That's what's happening.

If yours has no issue, then maybe it's worth looking at the .zip version and seeing if that one has issues with it removing content in clips. Again, I don't have it installed. I run it portable.

The Preview is fine by the way.

Also, here's something, everytime I edit or create a new clip, I export everything, and I close CopyQ. This could also be a source of issue where exiting or exporting everything is causing data loss (along with the portable version).

The codebase for the portable zip is the same all across the platforms - there are minor differences, but not related to the preview or the internal editor.

Anyway, I do not have Windows available anyway, so I cannot the portable version myself.

This is more likely related to the CopyQ configuration.

Can you share the item contents before editing and after? You can view the content by selecting the file and pressing F4 (or Item - Show Content from menu bar).

Okay, I just went through many of the clips and most are deleted. I went to import and imported everything. I see most back. But now everything was duplicated, including the right click context menu of "add a tag, pin, etc." - by duplicated I mean, I see them many many times.

And, before I imported, I saw that most of my clips had a portion of the content in preview and nothing when editing.

I'll have to stop using this. Note that I also have the whole portable folder in OneDrive.

Thanks for your help though.

Is this still a problem in the latest CopyQ? There were some fixes related to updating the item preview.
