[Question] What's the current status of the project?
Good to see the project is alive again. It would be good if somewhere, for example, in the readme file, there would be information and an explanation about the recent hiatus in development and the archiving of the repository. As the author, of course, you don't owe anyone any explanations, but given what horrible theories (including account takeover) appeared on the web after the project's sudden closure, I think such an annotation would reassure users of your program a bit.
- April ?
Author's account is hacked? Is SimpleWall still safe to use?
Yeah, suddenly setting the project to read-only without any communication doesn't look very reliable.. 🤨
As far as I can tell, the website was also archived to https://github.com/henrypp/henrypp.org, then taken down, so I don't see any indication for the account being hacked or other shady behavior, other than that @henrypp probably wanted to pause/stop development.
@lyndsay9968 and others:
that because i cannot find the jobs at least 5 years (as example, it over 9000), open source is completely cannot give money (stupid github is still reviewing my sponsorship and this is not a joke)
@silo900
1 april is day of idiots that decision is going from west religion (stupid as always), It is curious that before the I century AD almost all Eurasian peoples celebrated the New Year on the day of the vernal equinox (i.e. on Nauryz), Caesar when he changed the Roman calendar for simplicity and consistency moved the date to April 1, (we in Kazakhstan is still celebrate Nauryz as starting of the year spring, because of spring begining not in 1 March, but on spring equinox, learn geography), that happening until XVI century Grigory XIII moved new year to 1 january.
People who continued to celebrate the April 1 holiday were ridiculed and called “April Fools”.
About religion stupidity: Pope Gregory IX, who disliked all cats, issued the bull “Vox in Rama” in 1233. In it he demonizes heretics and declares the black cat to be Satan incarnate. Destruction of tailed cats by the Inquisition lasted until about 1700.
and then (funny?) become Black Death (as Atra mors) in 1346-1353, because cats cannot kill rats because of pope stupidity (no one talks about it, but i remember and think religion is fault of deaths more than 100 million peoples because of dumb people), i have black cat (and it become my before Flow (2024)) and it kind of best my cat ever because i did not listen to stupid religion...
and what, religion is not bullshit????
@gn4881
there is no logic at all, how can i archive repository when i'l be hacked?????
@phaolo2
i have telegram (on profile page) where i answer at least immediately
Honestly, if you don't feel like it, why did you reopen the project?
Absolutely abysmal behavior.
@silo900
Do you take western money ?
i dont know what it is? only give me a job its better
Marking my posts as a spam does not help you to look at reality.
maybe, but it is complete off-topic!
Only sensible firewall that is fast pure C not in some bloat language like it has become "norm" these days.
@fcore117 dotnet is garbage, it even cannot bytecode compile, it like script language and its source code in resources or overlay, lol, complete bullshit!
and can be decompiled through ilspy and others))! even obfuscator not much helps to hide source code!
Only sensible firewall that is fast pure C
Good luck with never ending crashes.
@tnodir
your .net is never crashing?
your .net is never crashing?
My C++/Qt is never crashing in production. (But it of course crashes sometimes during development.)
And of course my C rarely crashed in production too in Fort's driver, causing BSOD. Fortunately the driver is small and does not change much.
So, C is hard anyway and why complicate your life when it is not necessary?
@tnodir
oh shi, i forgot that you on QT (another strange as fuck development, where even Hello World consume 200mb)
so:
So, C is hard anyway and why complicate your life when it is not necessary?
same question!
even Hello World consume 200mb
Fort is 16MB now and consumes same-ish RAM, as Simplewall.
It's a reasonable price for quick and safe development.
same question!
But I don't have that many crashes.
@tnodir
But I don't have that many crashes.
no, crash not because of using C lang, but not right edit control sububclassing (someting like that)
Only sensible firewall that is fast pure C
Good luck with never ending crashes.
Never ending crashes comes from dumb ass programmers. Not the language fault.
I stumbled upon here while searching for a better firewall. This is certainly an interesting candidate.
@henrypp a bit off-topic, but the claim about cats killing looks like it's false (originating in a book from 1999) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vox_in_Rama#Allegations_of_cat-killing. I also could not find confirmation of April Fools origins story. There's already enough hate in the world, better not to invent new false things to be mad about.
I wish you best of luck with your job hunt! I know from experience how bad it is when the income is not stable over a longer period of time. Peace

lol, not

read history, second or whatever on google search https://www.quora.com/Why-is-1st-of-April-called-Fools-Day
Based off GROK, this git is likely compromised and taken over by russian bots or hackers. Beware whoever downloads and installs.

Author's account is hacked? Is SimpleWall still safe to use?
Is the consensus that SimpleWall is still safe to use?
There are a few aspects that at least makes me a little insecure:
- The Windows Defender virus detection of v3.8.6.1 (#1986) - a false positive?
- The reasons brought up in this thread that I cannot judge
- The official communication isn't super-calming as it is a bit "unconventionally formulated", like in this thread instead talking about religion and popes killing cats. (!!)
Please note, I don't mean to sound ungrateful: I love Simplewall ❤, but I'm also a relative GitHub/OSS newbie so I don't know how to correctly judge a GitHub project's objective safety or security. Anyone?
Are there enough non-related contributors with deep knowledge who can vouch for the source code?
Keep up the good work. Don't be distracted by the haters @henrypp.
As you can see, the recent ones likely originate from your competitor, Fort Firewall, who looks like they are making accounts to give bad reviews rather than just advertising his own.
Notice this account has no activity except with Simplewall and Fort.

I've replied only to "Sam Lander" about "important Windows security measures", when Simplewall lacks not-mentioned "security measures" too.
@tnodir like what? digital signature?)
like what? digital signature?)
"Sam Lander" blames Fort that it requires the HVCI disabling, because I can't sign the driver for now.
But he does not blame Simplewall for non-existing digital signature?
@deminimis When users ask me should they use Fort instead of Simplewall, I answer to not change the firewall if it fulfills your requirements. Fort is more complex and requires driver installation.
I appreciate @henrypp's work as open-source developer.
@tnodir

ага, канешн, сигнадура ведь обязательное... для чего? для запуска? хмммммм
