Design System - Template: Presentation slides for the workshops

Overview

As part of the Content Template Guide, we need to develop a presentation template for Access the Data for the live workshops. The template should be in alignment with the branding guide.

Additional Information

Brand Personality: Simple, Trustworthy, Empowering, and Accessible

Access the Data and Hack for LA stacked logo needs to be on every slide

We are using Google Slides for the presentation medium

Action Items

Slides are required to be ADA compliant hackforla/product-management#26.

  • [x] Research and determine best format for presentation (i.e. Canva, Google Slides, Powerpoint)
  • [ ] Information Architecture
    • [x] Based on other other resources such as workshop presentations (from competitors in hackforla/product-management#8) and Access the Data workshop content, list the types of slides that are needed and the flow of the presentation.
      • [ ] Gather feedback from workshop team on list of slide types
  • [x] Research
    • [x] look at 311 data slides and create comprehensive list of types of slides used
    • [x] look at other H4LA project slides and how they designed and formatted their templates
    • [x] check to see if our typography can be applied to google slides
  • [ ] Design
    • [x] Develop slide template and gather feedback from workshop team
    • [ ] Iterate on slide design based on feedback

Progress:

  • Researched formats for presentation (Canva, PP, Google Slides) and recommend Google Slides for its shareability, low cost, and ease of integration with existing project docs (i.e. Google Drive)
  • Researched cognitive studies (8 processes of communication) and surveys of slide presentations to identify factors affecting attention & learning
  • Outlined findings & recommendations

Refer to: PowerPoint® presentation flaws and failures: a psychological analysis

Availability:

  • 5 hours were spent on this issue

ETA:

  • The psych research and draft of template styles have been completed, but gathering feedback from the workshop team remains to be done.
  • This issue is de-prioritized for the time being to focus on the UX Research Plan.
