SPIKE: Investigate hiding the sign up component

Open CDicksonG opened this issue 2 months ago • 2 comments

There is an ambition to hide the sign up component that appears in articles when a user has already signed up to the newsletter in question. This would be a nice "quality of life" update that should make the sign up embeds less intrusive.

The way we believe this would work is:

  • User is signed in and signed up to the newsletter in the article

  • Hide the sign up component on the page

In order for this to work we need to confirm a few things:

  • [ ] We are able to tell which newsletter is being promoted on the page
  • [ ] We can tell that a user is signed in/signed up to that email
  • [ ] We can hide the component based on those preferences

I've created a sample article in the composer CODE environment which has a pushing buttons sign-up. This can be previewed here; https://preview.code.dev-gutools.co.uk/world/2025/nov/11/newsletters-dev-2.

AND the Composer Link ... Newsletters-dev-2 article in CODE

Useful links.

We're splitting this work into subtasks initially -

1. Hide it 2. Place it

With a view to achieving the overall goals ...

  1. We are able to tell which newsletter is being promoted on the page
  2. We can tell that a user is signed in/signed up to that email
  3. We can hide the component based on those preferences

Out of scope [ Potential Tooling enhancements ]

  • [ ] Can we look at adding an option for Newsletter sign-ups in the Composer tool article menu?

The sub-ticket to show or hide the sign-up newsletter component #14890 replaced this one. So we can close it.
