Folder browser doesn't show files, is this by design?

The file browser is showing files and folders as intended.

But the folder browser is only showing folders and no files.

Is there any "official" way to also see files with the folder browser and only select a folder OR is there a workaround that can help with this? I've tried searching on various sites and forums to no avail and I am not up to re-writing a file/folder explorer.

Try change the filter name from ".json" to "json", it may works.
