Updated some data and modified minor typos mistakes.
Overview
I've create the PR in order to modify the following files:
- CONTRIBUTING.md
- git-overview.md
- git-status.md
- install-git.md
I've updated some data about Linux os, added one console example, added missing dots at the end of sentences and modified uppercase/lowercase letters.

We have stayed with some style formats, including no periods at the end of bulleted list items unless any of the items is more than one sentence, and keeping sentence case, whenever possible.

Thank you SO much for bringing this question up. You are completely right - we don't have any references to these style guides. I checked for the resources we've used in the past, but they are internal only to GitHub, and (I believe from what I can see) they are not actively maintained.
I am going to open a PR to the contributing guide, linking to the Microsoft manual of style, and these top 10 tips. I recognize that GitHub isn't Microsoft, but as a content maintainer, these guides give more structure than no guides. (I'll also put that in the PR 😊 )
