Actions: More powerful macOS runners are now available for GitHub-hosted runners
Summary
GitHub-hosted macOS runners now provide more power and choice with the availability of larger macOS runners. Apple developers who need more power to reduce build times and increase velocity will have the hardware required to efficiently build, test, and deploy their software.
Intended Outcome
More powerful macOS runners reduce job run times, increasing your development velocity and delivering value faster.
How will it work?
To get started using more powerful GitHub-hosted macOS runners, create a new GitHub-hosted runner with the desired machine specifications. Then, update the runs-on: key in your Actions workflow YAML to have those jobs target your larger runner. These larger mac instances are based on our current Intel powered machines. For more information about when Apple silicon will be made available in our GitHub-hosted mac runners see the related item elsewhere on the roadmap.
