Trim helps maintain the SSD's efficiency and prolong its lifespan, it can be enabled by running sudo systemctl enable fstrim.timer but it is very easy to miss this important step after installing Solus. Less technical users could easily miss this step entirely resulting in a shortened SSD lifespan. Most modern computers are fitted with SSDs as standard, many older models are retro-fitted with a SSD to improve performance.

Same issue for me on a Budgie install.

IMO this is something we should enable for all the spins on new installs

Great news @TraceyC77 . TRIM is a command that plays an essential role in maintaining the efficiency and longevity of SSDs. I think Trim might have been enabled in earlier editions of Solus but was omitted after 4.5

Worth noting for future bug reports, people have reported performance issues deleting files that turned out to be related to this issue. https://discuss.getsol.us/d/11806-kde-has-become-very-slow-at-deleting-files
