Parse error: http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/9/3857542/hulu-we-reduced-the-number-of-ads-this-month-more-cuts-coming
This and the other Verge parse errors are due to a SCRIPT tag that appears inside a SPAN. It considers a span "textish" and doesn't try to dig inside it further, so all this email address hiding js gets treated like text.
In general this is probably non-awesome, since people put things inside spans all the time.
Considering span a block element fixes this.
The way span is used for NAV and for inline textual stuff might blow up the page.
I haven't done very much testing but it doesn't seem to. I guess I'd make the argument that people use span wrong in all sorts of creative ways, which they tend not to with the other elements were considering textish.
