how to update os?
i got it set up and wanted to get big sur but i cant figure it out.

I'm in the process of loading macOS in QEMU but I've been running macOS in VMware under the same VM for years and updating the OS is not any different than updating on a native Mac. You just go into the App Store and download/install it. I've gone through about 4 major updates on my VMware VM and all went as they would on a native Mac. I don't see why it wouldn't be the same on QEMU. You will need to follow this guide to get your Apple ID working if you haven't already done that: https://github.com/foxlet/macOS-Simple-KVM/blob/master/docs/guide-Apple-ID.md
I do have the same issue her QEMU
For me I can update just fine, but the restart hangs on a screen of console text, and won't do anything until I quit qemu. When I restart the KVM, the update hasn't worked and I'm still on catalina

I've managed to succesfully update to Big Sur with minimum effort. If you wanna try, download the opencore.qcow2 or opencore-nopicker.qcow2 (if you want to bypass the selection menu) from https://github.com/kholia/OSX-KVM/tree/master/OpenCore-Catalina and replace the ESP.qcow2 with the opencore one or by editing your config to the opencore. With the aforementioned qcow2 i could pass the black screen and it will keep installing the update and restarts a few times. After that just boot normally with the new opencore bootloader. It was for me very easy and runs without customization but YMMV.

I'm trying to find ESP.qcow2, but couldn't. Ran find / -name "ESP.qcow2".

ESP.qcow2 should be on your macOS-Simple-KVM folder, or if changed you could also check the location on your XML config for the first sata disk
