Firefox close to tray only on last tab closed

Open informatorius opened this issue 11 years ago • 10 comments

I wish Firefox close to tray only on last tab closed. There is an option to close to tray on last window closed but it does not work for tabs.

I don't want firefox to minimize to tray with still tabs open with websites when i click the X. I just want firefox to stay in memory when all tabs/windows are closed, and to open it using the tray icon.

So when firefox is open with 2 tabs and i close firefox window with x button then firefox ask close all tabs? I say yes then all tabs are closed and firefox window with one empty tab goes to tray.

I want the option close to tray on last tab closed.

Hi, how about the existing Only last window can be hidden [other windows will be closed (terminated)] ?

How can i activate that? Does it also work with tabs?

It's the 4th option on the Windows tab in FireTray's options. It works on windows, it doesn't handle tabs.

I updated the issue: Option works for last window. But i usually have only one firefox window open with several tabs. So this issue is about close to try on last tab closed :-)

  • I don't understand your query precisely: you'd like Firefox going hidden to tray when closing the last tab of the last window with Ctrl-w or click on the tab's X icon ?
  • Why would you like Firefox to stay in memory when inactive ?

Because on my PC to start firefox it takes 5 sec. If it stays in memory after close using FireTray, then firefox "starts" in 0 sec :-) I use firefox frequently and have plenty of free memory, so ...

Ok I see: so you usually close tabs with Ctrl-w, and would like FF to get hidden to tray on the last one. Correct ? One possible issue is that it's going to be hard to actually close FF if Ctrl-w/File>Quit prevents it. How about a keyboard short to hide/show FF ? This can be achieved with firefox -firetrayShowHide that you bind to a WM shortcut.

Keyboard shortcut for hiding firefox does only half of my wish. I think a combination of "Close all tabs" and "Hide Firefox to tray" would work for me: Given firefox window with several tabs open, when i click the firefox window X button, then all tabs gets closed and firefox window hides to tray. (Additional option: if "browser.tabs.warnOnClose" = true and close tabes warning dialog is cancelled then nothing happens)

I found a firefox addon "Close All Tabs (Reloaded)" which adds an additional red X button to firefox window to close all tabs but window stays open.

So now i click the red X to close all tabs and then the firefox X to hide the empty window to tray.

Maybe FireTray can use similar code like "Close All Tabs (Reloaded)" addon to do both? So i only need to click the firefox window X once?

Nice detective work. Thanks. I'll keep this one open, as I won't be able to work on it soon.
