Performance in 2.6 is the same. Screenshot from 2.6.0 (arrange options: distance 3.5 mm, 1 mm spacing to plate and rotation enabled):  So, I guess, it does not matter...
Not convinced, on my system 😆  To be fair, this was with a custom bed shape. And now, with a rectangle: _Naaa... same difference._ 
This has yet to be fixed: "Fill bed with copies" 
 With rectangular plates too.
It should "just" remember last used options. Done.
The gizmo could also stay the same size, relative to the screen. That way it would not zoom with view.
Already had a jammed nozzle because of that many retractions.

I was just about to add that to the list of issues, too.... but seeing that this was opened in 2017 - my hopes are far from high.
