Project ideas from the Evolution @ Scale Working Group

Open masterkhal opened this issue 6 months ago • 3 comments

Introduction

As we near the 6-month mark of the Evolution @ Scale working group, we'd like to brainstorm ideas of what tangible artefacts and projects could come out our working group. This issue will be used to track ideas which we will then use to determine next steps based on interest from the community and working group members.

Ideas

The following is a list of suggestions for artefacts and/or projects to come out of the working group

  1. A code repository to house contributions for recipes and/or at-scale solutions/scripts
  2. A listing of recommended solutions
  3. A white paper on use cases where an at-scale approach would yield significant benefits and simplify best practices
  4. A maturity matrix/model for evolution at scale along with a proposed workflow to follow to facilitate and onboard core repositories for at-scale solutions. Note: One idea proposed was to define a manifest file, similar to Dependabot, that would allow a repo to declare what it supports. Would require work with various vendors to adopt + work on our end to define the schema + tooling to parse/validate/generate
  5. An integration with CALM - Details TBD
  6. An integration with the AIGF - Details TBD
  7. An integration with the SDLC Common Controls Catalog Framework - Details TBD
  8. A forum to provide ideas to various vendors who offer at-scale solutions and share success stories
  9. Evolution Pattern Language - set of evolution patterns (akin to deisgn patterns) with a vocabulary and visual expression of patterns within this space (e.g. what is a dependnecy updage and how would it map into a pattern language)
  10. Handling throughput and style of PRs to help humans in the loop do what they need to do more efficiently and also according to it's urgency (bringing to mind things like how we get it in front of the people that need to take care of it and to be proactive aobut it).
