Meeting Minutes
- Meeting began with a round of introductions. @karlmoll explained how FINOS operates
- @mgasca explained the place of the working group (WG) within the DevOps Automation Mutualisation Special Interest Group (SIG) and FINOS
- @karlmoll discussed that GitHub is the preferred way to share across organizations, using issues for meetings and their comments
- WGs are short lived where we discuss exploratory topics under a SIG. They end with a recommendation to the Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) for a project. A project creates code/artifacts for collaboration at FINOS
- @mgasca discussed the inception of this WG and gave the example of the Architecture as Code WG, which spawned CALM as a project.
- @mgasca ran through the proposal (see main issue for link) and its vision, mission and objectives
- Amogh mentioned the emphasis on security related objectives and asked whether we should just focus on FinTech or broader technology. @masterkhal mentioned that while security may be the driver, we should look at more non-security use cases for completeness
- The group discussed the usage of OpenRewrite as a solution. @mgasca mentioned the idea of using OpenRewrite to help vendors who push out breaking changes as a recipe
- We gave an example of an architecture change that required moving from one product to another as an example of evolution at scale
- Amogh recommended we look at breadth of use cases, and agree on where we want to go in depth
- @abacaphiliac asked why the DevOps Automation Mutualisation SIG was put under FINOS. @mgasca discussed the evolution of architecture as code as a parallel example. FINOS offers the infrastructure and community for collaboration, while putting emphasis on the challenges around the financial services industry. @karlmoll added that much of what we do applies to other highly regulated areas (health case, insurance)
- The group discussed the challenge specific to being in a regulated environment and the opportunities this creates (e.g. usage of public cloud and data protection)
- The group suggested we raise an issue with the purpose of gathering ideas. This has been raised as https://github.com/finos/devops-automation/issues/235
- @karlmoll mentioned this role in helping connect this WG with other initiatives and will help with the advertisement and broadcasting
- Next meeting will take place on March 12th, 2025 at 12:00 PM EST / 17:00 UK. The issue for this meeting is https://github.com/finos/devops-automation/issues/234
