Minutes

  • We discussed and reviewed all past Inner Source licensing SIG meeting minutes and they were approved
  • Chamindra did a demo of the Creative Common license chooser running in docker modified as a inner source license chooser as a POC of how we can change it for our purpose
  • We discussed that that we can use this code also for selecting Open Source licenses for Financial institutions
    • It was discussed that we could integrate this work with Open Source readiness SIG as a license chooser will be valuable for Financial institutions interested in onboarding to Open Source
    • The OSR analysis of licenses can then be integrated with this chooser
    • James and Peter will open a thread on this with OSR SIG
    • We saw an opportunity to reuse the License chooser option to select an Open Source or Inner Source license particularly as the people choosing a license might now be aware of distinction between Inner Source and Open Source.
  • The creative commons Chooser is on a MIT license that will allow us to fork the code base
    • James recommend that Chamindra fork the code base and this can then get attached to the FinOS one
    • For contribution James has reached out to the London vue.js community and has a contact that he will put in touch with Chamindra
  • It was discussed that the inner source questionaire would best be sent by FInOS
    • James discussed that an email version can be organized to be sent out by FinOS
    • It was discussed if we can integrate this with the Open Source Readiness survey that is provided for onboarding FinOS members
  • We discussed how we can integrate this to backstage as well and a discussion needs to take place on the approach
    • It was noted that both backstage and innersource license chooser were based on Javascript/node.js code so there might be a way to integrate the two easily

As discussed I have created a fork of the creative commons license chooser for the purpose of choosing licenses for FinOS Inner Source and Open Source https://github.com/chamindra/finos-license-chooser @mcleo-d
