Use Dropins folder for non-eclipse.org features?

File-structure wise, currently all features and plugins are placed together under eclipse/features and eclipse/plugins

I wonder if it would make sense to keep those isolated to features+plugins retrieved from download.eclipse.org, and to store features installed from 3rdparty updatesites under the eclipse/dropins filetree under some suitable subfolder structure?
