Would this work for a Japanese Mega Drive Mini?

Hello. I'm planning to buy a Japanese Mega Drive Mini to extract its ROMs from. I recently found this guide here: https://github.com/farmerbb/RED-Project/wiki/Sega-Genesis-Mini - and was wondering if it'd work for the JP version as well?

I've never done this whole thing before, so before investing money in the console, I'd like to make sure the process would work beforehand.

2 years late but I just tried it on an original JP Mega Drive Mini and it worked fine.
