Slideshow not working in fullscreen mode on an iPad

This issue is a continuation of issue #2096 but I updated the pen to version 3.5.7 and added another image as first image:

I have a function to start the slide show via a button at the thumbnails page at the first slide, see

This works OK on a PC with Chrome, but on an iPad with Safari it mostly hangs if I click the button.

Any idea why it is not working on an iPad?

On an iPad it works Ok with Chrome and sometimes too the first time with Safari. With a 2nd and next try with Safari, the slideshow does not start.

You can see it too with this test album.

If the slideshow hangs, the close button is also not working.
