building locally doesn't work

cd sapling/eden/scm
make oss
./sl --help

prints nothing. It used to print something when sl was installed on my mac (via brew), but after doing brew uninstall sapling) my locally compiled version doesn't do anything (even after I recompiled it)

I'm having the same issue. I even uninstalled completely, then reinstalled the arm64 bottle straight from the releases, and it also prints nothing.

so uhhh no idea what happened but all of a sudden sl is working as expected. I changed nothing.

I had the same issue once. It turned out that the daemon of the previous version was still alive and was incompatible with the new version. Try stopping the daemon with sl --kill-chg-daemon and see if that resolves the situation.

Besides killing the server, setting CHGDISABLE prenvents the server from being used, so CHGDISABLE=1 ./sl --help usually works
