Contact sync fails

I've erased a contact on the web app, the source, synced w/ the android client, and now instead of zero contacts for this I have 2 contacts, neither of which can be erased. WTF?

Weird. What do you mean by can't be erased?

This one thankfully did eventually resolve, but it took hitting sync many times in the etesync android app. It would be nice if contacts could be deleted off the phone itself and sync here. Is that a problem w/ the android ecosystem that this sync is one way to the phone? Seems quite crazy to not be able to delete contacts off one's own device.
