Captured audio not playing (CLAP/VST)

PaulXStretch 1.6.0 (both CLAP and VST), Bitwig 4.4.3, MacOS 10.15.7

Steps to reproduce:

Load PaulXStretch with default settings
Set "Capture when host transport is running"
Enable capture by clicking microphone
Start transport, let it capture, stop transport
Click play button: nothing happens, waveform playhead doesn't move

No combination of transport sync settings or capture state seems to make a difference. The one thing that makes it go is changing the prebuffer setting, after that it plays fine.

I have noticed these issues in bitwig as well

Same in Ableton 11 Win 10 VST3 (not tried prebuffer setting)
