Feedback on the 'Your role' section
Note: see the Data Steward policy page as an example of what I am talking about below.
-
[x] The phrase 'Data Steward' in the page titles looks like it is being used as an adjective, so 'Data Steward policy' sounds like it's a page about policy. Perhaps this could be changed to 'Data Steward (policy)' or 'Policy Data Steward'. The same goes for the other 'Data Steward' pages in this section.
-
[ ] The 'Description' section of the Data Steward pages is written in first person, which sounds odd to me, especially when it is not a convention used elsewhere on the site. Also, I wonder if this Description section could be broken in to bullet points to make it easier to scan. Instead of 'As a policy data steward, I focus on policy development and the implementation of research data management practices in my organisation', we could write 'A policy data steward:
- focuses on policy development and the implementation of research data management practices;
- works in close collaboration with directors, policy makers and funders;
- ....etc'
-
[ ] I wasn't clear about the difference between the 'Description', 'Focus' and 'Learning path' sections. They all seemed to describe the role, but in slightly different ways. If I came to the page confident I knew my job, and I just wanted advice on data management, I don't know which heading I'd go to - perhaps 'Common problems' or 'Resources'? In the 'Researcher' role page there is a 'Getting started' section, which feels like a place I'd jump to for help. The goal of the site is to help people with their data management so perhaps it could be more obvious how the Data Steward pages can help you? Maybe the first three sections can be amalgamated and 'Common problems' appear closer to the top? Or have a 'Getting started' section, like in the Researcher role?

[ ] The Researcher page and the Data Steward pages don't follow the same format.
-
[x] The bullet points are punctuated inconsistently, which may well be the case across the site! The style guide only has simple advice on bullet points. I'll update it with a little more detail.
Anyway, these were just some quick thoughts I had when I wandered into the section a few days ago.
In general, I agree with everything. Specifically,
- A better way to convey the following message via the page title should be found: The working areas of Data Stewards could be further divided into three areas: policy, research and infrastructure.
- ‘Description’, ‘Focus’ and ‘Learning path’ could be summarised, merged and expressed in bullet points. An image could also be added. The aim could be just to explain what profile the page is referring to.
- ‘Resources’ and part of the ‘Learning path’ paragraphs could be grouped under ‘Training’.
- ‘Common problems’ will be replaced by “Related pages” tiles.
- The aim of the ‘Getting started’ should be clarify: is it about getting started with RDM or with RDMkit? Is it about finding RDM training materials or support in an institute?
Change the title of the pages as Data steward: policy
All of the above suggestions were discussed in the Ghent contenthaton and are taken into account in issue https://github.com/elixir-europe/rdmkit/issues/1276.
