Tasks still not working on nVidia Graphics

Open d-indubitable opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

What Happened

I performed a clean install of elementary OS 6 and then installed nVidia drivers on it which this time working perfectly. But after the restart, I can't open the Tasks anymore. The mouse cursor keeps loading for a while then it's gone. It only works when I switch prime mode to intel.

Expected Behavior

Tasks app opening in a Window.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Download from the website and clean install elementary OS6 stable.
  2. Install Nvidia Drivers by doing "sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall"
  3. Restart
  4. Click on Tasks on the dock.

I had a similar problem, but it resolved on its own after installing the Spotify client using Flatpak, during the installation process, something else installed for nvidia and it worked. (sorry for bad English)

@d-indubitable can you verify you are running the latest version of Tasks (6.0.2) and confirm the issue does still persists? To check the currently installed Tasks version, execute the following command in the Terminal:

flatpak info io.elementary.tasks

Yeah, It is still not working on 6.0.2. As @kronicprince said (many thanks!!), after installing Spotify through Flathub the tasks app works perfectly.

This is the list of dependencies, which are going to install with Spotify through Flathub. I think the most interesting point is org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.nvidia-470-57-02. (I've Nvidia drivers version 470 installed).

 1. [✓] org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.nvidia-470-57-02 1.4 i flathub 223.9 MB / 223.9 MB
 2. [✓] org.freedesktop.Platform.Locale 20.08 i flathub 17.7 kB / 322.2 MB
 3. [✓] org.freedesktop.Platform.openh264 2.0 i flathub 1.5 MB / 1.5 MB
 4. [✓] org.freedesktop.Platform 20.08 i flathub 92.2 MB / 268.1 MB

Getting the same problem on Dell XPS 15 (9550). The permission to GPU Acceleration is ON. Getting following error from terminal:

$ flatpak run io.elementary.tasks
Gtk-Message: 21:49:40.353: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
Gtk-Message: 21:49:40.354: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
