Wired Network Configuration

Open OssNass opened this issue 3 years ago • 1 comments

Problem

When connecting a wired network, no manual configuration is available.

Sometimes wired networks requires manual configuration, for example if there is no DHCP server on the network

Proposal

I believe you are using Gnome network stack, it does have a wired network configuration tool, please add that interface to wired network configuration

A few days ago we had an issue with our HPC cluster. As usual, I tried to connect to its IPMI interface using an ethernet cable to see what's going on. For the connection to work, I also need to set my wired IP address to "static" and a particular value. When I tried doing that after recent upgrade to OS 7, I got this unhelpful dialog:

This was perfectly working in OS 6.1 just a few weeks ago (before I upgraded to OS 7). Sure, the UI was that old-timey GNOME thing, but at least it got the job done. In OS 7, my only option became to blindly reboot the HPC and wish for the best. Or, bring another laptop with different OS
