Change USB to USB-C
I think that could be nice and future-thinking, but might also not best reflect the real world of current USB drives, nor be as recognizable. Just because new computers have USB-C doesn't mean that a decade or two of USB peripherals have disappeared.
Plus almost every one (of the very few) USB-C drives I've seen in the wild are those ugly two-sided ones, and that feels a little too complex since it's a transitional technology.
That said, a USB-C end might be a simpler design, and retaining the symbol might be enough. :man_shrugging:
One thing we should find out is if GVFS or whatever is responsible for this icon name provides us with a namespace that will let us differentiate between these devices
@danrabbit Currently, there is no distinction between the two. (see table 6). There is only drive-removable-media.
Like @cassidyjames suggested, it may work to just rework the bottom part of the icon to remove the squares, also simplifying the icon in the process. It will still retain the USB logo which is the most important part.
Here’s what it would look like:

Any updates on this?
USB-C flash drives are still extremely uncommon, so I think that USB-A should be shown for now.
