Global search gives incorrect number of hits for some search terms

What Happened?

Searched for .changed. The current document had one hit with local search (correct) but the global search showed a badge of 7 against the current document (incorrect). The local search for changed, without the leading point, gave seven hits (correct).

It appears leading . characters are ignored by global search.

Steps to Reproduce

Compare local and global search results for a search term with a leading . using a document that has more hits for the search term without the leading .

Expected Behavior

. should be treated as part of the search term in global search
