Quickly open recently worked on projects/branches

Problem

It would be good to be able to quickly open those branches recently worked on.

Proposal

Maintain a persistent list of recent project/branch names. Choosing from this list would open the required project (if not already open) and checkout the required branch. This could be exposed either in the inline toolbar or next to the project chooser button for example.

Prior Art (Optional)

It is common for applications e.g. word processing applications to maintain a list of things recently worked on but not currently open.
