Open danirabbit opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

What Happened?

Now that AppCenter has automatic updates, we should be up front that paid apps require payment for this feature

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install a paid app without paying
  2. Enabled auto updates
  3. See that unpaid apps don't auto update

Expected Behavior

Some kind of UI copy like:

Software Version

Why are only paid apps eligible for automatic updates? It seems a bit user-unfriendly.

@jadeastar Ah no sorry, both paid and free apps can receive automatic updates.

If you try a paid app for free, that unpaid app will not be automatically updated. You'll be prompted to pay at update time. But you can select "try for free" again.

It is an intentional minor inconvenience to incentivize folks to pay for apps where developers are asking for payment. But again, free apps also receive automatic updates.
