Statements in a field unter content control not processed

I have a template document and added the statement <%=Model.foo%> into a field that is under Content Control in Word. The result of this is, that neither an error was thrown, nor was the expression replaced with the value defined in the model, the template expression just remained there verbatim.

I would expect that it gets replaced in that place, too.
