Installation fails

Running on an Ubuntu VM.

Every time I invoke the ./UTILS/make_tool script I get the following output:

Wide character in print at ./UTILS/make_tool line 76, <AUTH_IN_FILE> line 11.

I've installed all the necessary perl packages. Any idea what might be causing it?

I do not think anyone is managing the proton development. For placement tools, try graywolf, or try the very capable (but also very new) RePlAce in the OpenROAD project. Both projects are on github.
